... uuuh, I must surf deep in my brain ... long, long time has gone since I made it (and acutally my sunroof is in the highest area of my garage, stored till mounting). So I try (no obligo!) => the 4 main-rods are running in the alu-profile "under the roof", contoured and following during opening/closing always along the roof of the car. The 4 small rods are fixed with a helping-arm on the main-rod and they are runing free (outside the profile). This "secondary rod" will only press the canvas to the roof, if canvas is in closed position. You see, that the construction of the helping-arm will adjust these secondary rod (the free running one) parallel to the main-rod in closed-position. The general function is => First rod in the profile, second out, third in, fourth out and so on. With this arrangement the canvas can go upstairs during opening and it will lay "press" on the roof, if you close it. All rods must be stored in a "sack-hole" of the canvas. Because of the sharpnes of the rods all rod-ends must be armed with a leathercover on their end, otherwise your canvas will be destroyed inbetween minutes. On the end of the canvas (over the rear window) the complete canvasconstruction must be fixed on the roof with Sikaflex or onother gummed adhesive material. The screws alone may not fix it enough! Sorry, can´t explain it more clear ... hope this will help you. If necessary, I can make detailled pics from my roof or/and make a scan from my freehand-sketches. good luck during mounting your roof in the correct way, give please reply from the result

at first (sorry about the maybe simple question) please look for your fin => it must start with 136.049 if the sunroof is factory-build. If your cars id starts with 136.040 you have a retrofitted sunroof !
In the workshop-manual (the great one for all models) you find nothing to mount or justify the sunroof, webasto (I asked them a few years ago) has no servicemanuals or adjustment-instructions from the 50th in stock. In the coachwork spare-parts list ("Aufbau-Ersatzteilliste 136.IV, Ausgabe B") you will find on page 104-110 are shown only the parts with all numbers, but no hints how to find the correct justifying. By-the-way => I have only a reproduction of the spare-parts list and page 110 with the partsdescription from no. 12 till 14 is missing. Has anybody this page and can make a copy ????
I made pics and a protocol with some freehand sketches (they give me today the idea, that since I must be drunken ;-]]) during demounting my sunroof a few years ago. If you will have more input, please give me a sign .... I remember, that the cable rope must be fixed very exact, otherwise the roof will pinch (sometimes left side, sometimes right side). regards

text from website: Bonjour à tout le monde, je me présente : moi c'est luigi, alias luigibenz vous avez compris, je suis fou des benz, et ma famille aussi (pas mal de personne de FA me connaise deja , j'ai 16 ans et j'ai déja restaurer une fiat 130 berline 3.2L v6 à l'age de 13 ans (oui , oui c'est pas des m'ensonges ), , mon grand pére étant lui aussi un grand passionner des voitures anciennes et lui aussi de mercedes en particulier, il possédait une mercedes 170s de 1953 berline, cela faisait maintenant environ 23 ans qu'il l'avait achetée dans l'idée de la restaurée un jour, moi qui commencais à m'interesser au anciennes, ont est venus à parler de la mercedes de mon grand, une qu'il à posséder et qui est rester dans la famille, mais avec un conflit elle c'est vendue, comme par hazard 3 jours plus tard que je commencer à mis interesser, je l'ai rechercher pendant prés de 3 ans, etc mais bon se serait trop long et se n'ai pas le but de ce topic, mais la grande passion et venue à partire de cette mercedes, pour info, qui été une 260d de 1936 en carosserie pullman, bon revenons à ma 170, donc c'était il y a envrion 3 ans, revenant maintes fois décu pour l'autre mercedes, mon pére me disait, moi la petite 170 de ton grand pére me plait bien, moi obstiner à acquerir la 260d, je m'en fouté un peut, mais plus je voier cette 170, plus je l'aimais, et le jours ou j'ai vraiment sus que je n'aurais pas l'autre je me suis mis à fond dessus la 170, mais mon grand pere, lui sa petite mercedes, il ne voulez pas la cédée, voila les mois qui passe et moi qui me "ronge" pour l'avoir, cette 170, mais la aussi se serait trop long , alors nous voila le 25 décembre de cette année 2007, au petit matin, mon grand pére qui vient chercher mon pére pour lui demander d'aller l'aider à faire je ne sait quoi ( je ne suis pas surpris, c'est son habitude ), et d'un coup je vois arriver mon grand pére avec son porte voiture et dessus la mercedes!!! , j'été tellement heureux que je ne pouver même plus parler!!! , voila, j'esperê ne pas vous avoir "embeter" avec tous c'est mots, mais j'estime qu'il et bien de connaitre l'histoire, des personnes et du projet qui vont faire vivre ce topic , alors maintenant je vais vous présenter la restauration de ma chére petite 170 , petite information qui a sont importance, cette voiture c'est trouver dans un hangard à mon grand pére à coté de sa petite soeur, une mercedes 180d ponton de mon grand pere, ainci que en compagnie de plusieurs anciennes, et lors de la tempéte de 1999, cet hangard c'est effondrer, et seule 4 voitures on survecues, la 170, la ponton, et deux autres, c'est ce qui explique les ailes et le phare qui sont abimés elle a eu chaud la pauvre!! Donc maintenant place au photos, pour infos , à l'heure actuelle, tout le devant de la voiture et demonter, mais j'attender d'avoir une certaine avance de façon à ne pas laisser le topic sans nouvelles trop longtemps, donc voici les photos:

As an examole, my 220 diagram showed trafficators but my car has lights and a flasher, horn and fog light relays, etc. I had my diagram enlarged to 24in. X 36in. so that I could write on it and make all the corrections and add notes. Eventually, my plan is to make all those edits into a hi-res file and reduce it back down into something a little more handy to carry in the car and keep on file, but I think that part of the project will be a long time in the future.
