170 tool kit question parts manual drawing
Hello all, I am sending .pdf copies of the 170D and the 170S parts manuals to Jim Axman for inclusion in the website, all this with the permission of MBUSA. Given that he is busy now with fixing things and I just got the 170S ETL / SPM (apparently there's a dealer only version?) it will be scanned and sent later.

One question: part number 000.581.02.01 aka 136. 581.02.01 and variations are in German called an
" Entlüftunsschlüssel," or an air bleeder wrench .

Is this a wrench to remove an air valve from a tire tube, or is it a bleeder wrench for the brake wheel cylinders in the case of side-of-the-road repair?  Does anyone have one? Would like to know.

I have always thought that the hammer in the tool kits was there also to act as a bead breaker if required to change tubes. Curiously enough, there's never an air pump included in the tool kits of any cars I know of, except those with Michelin tires in the 1930s. Is this an indictment of the quality or an extra precaution?

Thanks,
Darryl

Roadster,  Thanks for the info.  Can you provide some close-ups of this wrench? I would like to get some of the more esoteric tools or make them.
Thanks, Darryl

Hello Darryl - sorry, I do not have such a original wrench too and I found no pic in my stock.

maybe you can find one in ebay, the items are called "bremsleitungsschlüssel" (for example, have a look on
http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&&item=130259267659&ssPageName=ADME:B:EF:DE:1120 (http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&&item=130259267659&ssPageName=ADME:B:EF:DE:1120))

regards Hans

In Australia, these are known as flare nut spanners (wrenches) and are particularly useful for fitting over steel brake lines and brake bleeder nipples. Can't say I have ever seen one listed in a MB tool kit though.

The bleeder wrench was included in the tool kits for prewar and postwar 170V, 170Va, 170D, 170Da, and the 170S.  The were eliminated from the tool kits in 1952/53 .... so models 170Db, 170Vb, 170Sb, 170DS, 170S-D, 170S-V, and 220 models did not have the wrench.
