The knobs on my 53 170Vb all screw on. One of them I cannot get off for fear of breaking the plastic. What is even tougher to remove are the chrome trim rings that fasten the switches to the dash. Haven't really found a proper tool to engage the holes spaced at 180 degree intervals. I am sure that MB had a tool for the purpose, but I have never seen one.

Escutcheon pliers is what some use. I believe this is an image of the real mccoy....probably could make one of these out of a offset pliers and a grinder? I have made something similar out of a needle nose pliers set

Charles, Your picture is what I envisioned. The tool must be rare...never seen one on ebay or elsewhere. Thanks for sharing.
