Title: Mercedes EPC data base for parts
Post by: John Ellis on March 31, 2008, 07:33:04 PM
Len Sokoloff from the Ponton group shared this info on their forum today. This lets us access the MB parts data base with all of the superceded parts numbers.

For a couple of months now, MBUSA has provided the Electronic Parts Catalog, EPC, free for US users. For non-US users, I think the cost may be about $12 per year. Until today I didn’t know that the picture parts catalogs for our pontons were included in the EPC or at least I didn’t know how to access it. But by entering your vehicle model designation, 180030 in the case of my 220S cabriolet, one can access the entire picture parts catalog for your particular vehicle. The EPC gives you the original part number and any changes/substitutions to that part number. Prices are not included for us, but the MSRP can be obtained by plugging the part number into this website,
http://www.trademotion.com/partlocator/index.cfm?siteid=214269. That will at least give you an idea of what the OE part will cost you. Keep in mind that Tom will give us a 15% discount at the Classic Center.
Go to
http://epc.startekinfo.com/epc/ to sign up. You will be asked for a credit card number, but this is only to verify that you are a US resident. There will be no charge unless you are not in the US. I find this to be a very helpful tool for me when ordering parts. If you have a 1980’s and up Mercedes with the 17 digit VIN, just enter that to find the information for those cars.

I mentioned this site to the group several months back. The pre 1960's info is right out of the paper catalogs and is NOT necessarily the superseded or current part number. Most are still OK and the images are useful but the image quality is poor for the older cars.

Brian,You are correct (just over a year ago in a post on March 01, 2007). I must have missed the post or didn't follow through with the link.
I agree that the superceded numbers aren't there for the 170 and 220, but the search functions are great. There is a feature that allows you to enter the part number and shows all the vehicles that share this part.
The data base does have the replacement part numbers for the ponton's and 300 models.
Since your post last year, the service is free to U.S. clients and $12/year elsewhere.

I think the service is free for the US parts database, $ 12 to access the worldwide data base. Just what models and parts fall into what category I have no idea. It may be the "stocked in the US" parts vs. the "available from Germany" parts. Maybe if you pay the $ 12, you get the replacement numbers for the 170's and 220's.

I can access both data bases for free and there appear to be no differences, at least for the 170/220 models.
