Auftrag (order number)
(J Axman) >> Above the VIN tag, on the firewall, at least on this 170S sedan, there is a small plate titled "Auftrags Nr" (which i guess is for "order" #). Not use to seeing this on other models later ...sort of cool in a way.. I assume it means the sequential order number in either the 170S model or 170 in general, or perhaps in the year (in this case 1950)??
(H Magno)>>It was an order number, but I'm not sure how they were sequenced. My guess is cronologically as the cars were sold or available to be sold, but not by individual model. It was a pre-war holdover that they dropped or at least stopped putting on the cars around 1950.
