220 Model differences

 Engine
(J Axman)>> Can you confirm, that the M180 engine used in the (1951-55) 220 model is the very same one (with same specifications) used in the later 219 or 220S pontons?

(H Magno )>> No they are *not exactly the same, You can't just bolt in a later engine.
The flywheel, oil pan, oil pump pick-up, oil filter, exhaust manifolds, front counterweight and carburetor are different among other things. As far as cylinder heads, I would use the aluminum 8.7 (220S) head . The original cast iron head tends to crack.

(H Magno)>>>The battery box covers were eliminated at some point, maybe early 52.

(Henry) >> The crank hole was not optional. It was eliminated in the 220 in 1952 and at some point in the 170 S as well. My 170 S-V parts book shows the later grill.
