ANTENNA
Post by: John Ellis on March 01, 2006, 09:12:04 PM
My 170Vb has a hole on the right side just in front of the trafficator from an antenna that is no longer installed (radio missing also).  Was this the correct placement for the antenna or did someone add an antenna?  I am trying to decide whether to fill the hole in.  By the way, my build sheet does not show a radio as an accessory add on, but perhaps this was not done by MB at the factory?

What does a Hirschmann antenna look like?

Secondly, did the radio in the 170V mount below and centered on the dash?  The sightings section shows one mounted in this fashion.

The prewar 170v was not laid out for a radio option. I am not sure if they had worked out something for your model being that is is a 53. At that point the Solitude was already available for the 170S. The shape of the hole looks right for the Hirschmann antenna but I don't know where you would put the radio in the dash without it looking like an add on. Pictures of the Hirschmann antenna are in the gallery under radios.
